Michael Kintu (PhD) holds B.Sc. degree in Economics and Master’s
Degree in Economic Policy and Planning from
Makerere University in Uganda, and with his PhD thesis
focused on the Utilization patterns and Demand Determinants of Education,
Health, and Water and Energy facilities under Uganda’s Decentralized
Governance. Michael is community volunteer
and Lecturer in the development studies department of the Nkumba
University at Entebbe, Uganda, teaching socio-economic development to more than
800 undergraduate students.
As a Grants manager with the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI,
1993-2003), during the highest Peak
of HIV infections in Uganda, Michael managed a variety of HIV Research and Prevention Grants (Close to US$30 Million) from the NIH, Rockefeller, USAID, CDC, Gates Foundation, JICA, DANIDA, DFID, EU,
World Bank and several other private funding agencies.
As
a Project Manager of World Bank funded
integrated farmers ‘s project from June 2003 to August 2006, Michael
managed a complex program worthy US$
2.5million to US$2.7 million annual budget in which Water, Sanitation,
HIV/AID, Agriculture, Food security and Micro finance enterprise development,
Gender, Environment, Conflict resolution as well as Disability were cross
cutting issues.
From
2007-2017, Michael undertook a number of consultancy services involving impact
evaluation research and pilot studies in Education, Health, Agriculture, Water and Energy projects funded by
USAID, DANIDA, EU, and World Bank in the East Africa region.
Since early 2018-to-present , Michael is
serving as the
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Project Director of the ADMIRE
Aquaponics Enterprise, where his efforts has pioneered the introduction and distribution
of the various types of micro
ADMIRE systems , promotion of affordable fish
farming (Aquaculture) products, services, and consultancy: Michael’s remarkable
measurable milestones include having (1) Over 150 million Fry and
Fingerlings Harvested & Distributed across East & Central Africa (2) 91,700 Fish Farmers Trained in East &
Central Africa-Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, DR Congo & South Sudan (3)
12,426 Cages, Ponds, Solar Dryers, & Aquaponics Systems Designed for
Clients (4) 15,146
Local Products (ADMIRE systems, Nets, Mixers, mincers ,Demand Feeders etc) Designed and (4) 42,511 Jobs Created.
Prior to conceiving the EU/UNDP Funded ADMIRE Aquaponics
Enterprise(US$125,000), Michael had earlier on conceived and implemented
several project proposals incorporating the cooperative credit model to address social problems such as one
funded by USAID/DIV Lighting Uganda with Solar(US$298,360), and another funded by Belgium-Based Children and
Violence Evaluation Challenge Fund(EUR265,000) -Promoting a Savings and
Credit Cooperative Culture among Ugandan Private Midwives for
prevention of violence against
children. Michael ‘s work
